FAQ
Q:: I have my AskFirst timer set to check every 5 minutes and my email client software set to check every ten minutes. But even still, I get an occassional spam email in my InBox. Why?
A:: We instruct users to set their AskFirst timers at twice the frequency as their email clients, but this is just a guideline. Whatever time there is between the last AskFirst check and the email client download of email, will be the "window of opportunity" for spam emails to land in the users InBox. Therefore, if you find that you're getting too many SPAM emails, either increase the AskFirst check timer frequency OR manually trigger an AskFirst scan (by clicking on the timer button) a few seconds before getting your email.
Q:: Don't you think that deleting the users Email is a bit radical for controlling spam emails ?
A:: That depends on how you look at it. Before using this system, I was spending upwards from two hours a day sifting through my email, looking for the REAL emails. AFTERWARDS, I was able to do my email sessions in fifteen minutes or less. How much is YOUR time worth ?
It only takes your contacts a few seconds to reply to your valiation email, and it's only a one time event. Once they are on your list, they never again will be bothered, at least until they change their address. You may also manually import your list of contacts by email address, so they will never have to be challenged at all.
Q:: How about those emails that fake services that I use, such as PayPal and my bank? They will be using their email addresses as their return address. How do I get around this ?
A:: Yes, these emails will NOT be stopped by AskFirst if they are set to allow them, but then also.. they are not spam... they are scams.
What WE do is set up a "safe email address" that is used for such things, and this email address is NEVER EVER compromised... meaning, NO ONE EVER gets this email OTHER THAN these services. In this day of cheap hosting and freemail accounts, this is very easily accomplished.
Q:: Will AskFirst work with XXXXX Email Software ?
A:: AskFirst does not depend on any other email software as it runs standalone and makes a direct connection to your email account(s). You configure AskFirst with the POP3 Server Address, the SMTP Server Address, the Login and Password for each account you want protected, and it will take things from there. It won't REPLACE your normal email software (whatever it is) but it will zap any spam emails on these accounts as well as automatically handle your validation tasks.
Q:: Does AskFirst work with WebMail systems ?
A:: No, sorry. AskFirst requires a POP3 connection to your Email account. If you have a cPanel account (hosting) ask your provider about BoxTrapper, a cPanel method for doing what AskFirst is doing.
