How AskFirst Works
Although you may use AskFirst to control business InBox's, it is probably a bit too radical for such because it requires that a person acquire permission to email you FIRST. Accordingly, AskFirst is designed to secure personal email accounts. The first time someone emails an AskFirst protected InBox, their email is directly deleted from the server and an auto-response sent them that says simply
Hello,
Your email to [email address] requires that you first be added to my "safe list" and as such has been automatically deleted. Sorry about your having to resend, but spam has just about rendered my InBox useless and I had to do something radical without spending a lot of time.
It's easy. Simply send back a reply with the subject unchanged. The subject of this email contains the code I need to add your address to my safe list. After that, you can email me from this email address without challenge.
Of course you are free to edit this text as you wish. The basis by which this system works is simple. Most (if not all) spammers do NOT use their real return email address in order to avoid legal issues, therefore they will never even SEE the validation email, let alone reply to it. And those few who do have the nerve to validate and then spam anyway, can be added to the black list and (silently) never heard from again.
For those who wish to list an email address on their web site, and NOT have the emails challenged at all, there is our passcode system. You may create as many passcodes as you wish, and any time these codes are found in the SUBJECT header of your incoming emails, they will be permitted through unchallenged. Therefore, you could for example create instructions on your site that reads!
Please enter the passcode "27A794" in the subject header of your email to bypass our filter"
As soon as this is compromised by spammers (unlikely but possible) simply change the passcode(s).
Between the Challenge and Response system and our Passcode system, you will have complete control over who can (and can NOT) send email to your InBox.
